Q: Why sheepskin?
A: Sheepskin is a natural fiber with many wonderful qualities. Sheepskin acts as a thermostat for your body – whether wearing it on your feet or sitting on it in the car. It’s cool in the Summer and Warm in the Winter. The hollow fibers of wool wick away moisture – so you don’t feel damp or sweaty regardless of the weather. In addition, your sheepskin slippers, rugs and seat covers will last for many years with minimal care.

Q: What kind of sheepskin do you use?
A: We use only the finest premium grade sheepskin pelts from Australia and New Zealand. Our hides are tanned using the latest technologies. Most of our sheepskin comes from Merino sheep due to its superior softness and resiliency. Superior hides ensure superior products from Baa Baa Sheepskins.

Q: How are your sheepskins tanned?
A: Sheepskin pelts are treated to preserve quality and natural beauty. The procedure used to ready raw animal hides for use is called "tanning." A piece of hide or skin which has been tanned produces a strong, flexible leather which is able to resist decay and spoilage.

Q: What kind of dye do you use?

A:  Our factory uses only the best hot water dyes.  These hot water dyes are permanent, stable dyes that won't rub off or wash out of the finished product.

Q: Why sheepskin slippers or boots?
A: As a natural fiber, sheepskin insulates your feet so that they are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Unlike synthetic fleece, sheepskin stays cushy longer and molds to your feet. Also, it doesn’t conduct static electricity.   Sheepskin boots and slippers are stylish and comfortable - a winning combo!

Q: Are sheepskin slippers or boots going to make my feet sweat?
A: Unlike synthetic fleece, Sheepskin is a natural fiber and insulates your feet so that they are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Sheepskin has the ability to wick the perspiration from your skin to keep your feet from overheating.  We recommend that you wear your sheepskin slippers and boots without socks for the most comfort.

Q: Can I wear my sheepskin slippers outside?
A: Yes, all of our slippers with hard rubber soles are appropriate to wear outside. We recommend treating them with a good waterproofer first. It will keep your slippers looking new and repell water spots and more. We do not recommend wearing our soft sole sheepskin slippers outside because they have a soft, leather sole.

Q:  How can I keep my sheepskin boots looking good?
A: Before wearing your sheepskin boots, we recommend protecting them with a good water and stain repellent / waterproofer specifically for suede.  This will help prevent stains from water, as well as keep your feet protected from moisture.  If you do get spots, try using a suede cleaner and a suede brush. We do not recommended washing our boots in the washing machine.

Q: Do your sheepskin slippers or boots run big or small?
A: Our sheepskin slippers and boots are available in whole sizes only. They run true to size. Please keep in mind, your slippers and boots will stretch with use. If you wear a ½ size, we recommend moving up to the next whole size.

Q: Do your sheepskin slippers or boots come in wide or narrow widths?
A: Our sheepskin slippers and boots come in standard width only. If you need wider or narrower slippers, we recommend the moccasin style which you can adjust with the tie or the scuff style which can easily accommodate a wider foot.  The boots are pretty roomy and able to accomodate wider widths, as well.

Q: Do your sheepskin slippers or boots come in ½ sizes?
A: Our sheepskin slippers and boots are available in whole sizes only. They run true to size. Please keep in mind, your slippers and boots will stretch with use. If you wear a ½ size, we recommend moving up to the next whole size.

Q: How do I clean sheepskin slippers or boots?
A: We recommend protecting your sheepskin slippers and boots with a good water and stain repellent / waterproofer specifically for suede. You can keep them clean by brushing occasionally with a soft brush and using spot cleaner.  We DO NOT recommended washing our slippers or boots in the washing machine.

Q:  What can I do with a sheepskin rug?
A:  Sheepskin rugs are a natural and beautiful addition to almost any room in the house. Use one beside the bed or drape one across a chair or couch.  A sheepskin rug in front of the fireplace is a classic for a reason – it always looks good. Or lay one over the foot of your bed, under the coffee table or next to your bath tub. Bare feet on a sheepskin rug are a thing of bliss.

Q:  How do I clean my sheepskin rug?
A:  One of the best things about sheepskin rugs is their ease of care. They usually don’t require more than a good shaking out, an occasional vacuuming and regular brushing with a wire pet brush. If your rug does get dirty, you can hand or machine wash your sheepskin rug in COLD water, due to the tanning process that we use. Be sure that you use COLD water only. Hot water will damage the rug.

Hand Washing: Use a mild liquid household detergent such as Ivory hand soap or Eucalan Wool Wash. DO NOT USE laundry detergents or soaps that contain enzymes or bleach such as Woolite or All! Do not use fabric softeners. These products will strip the wool of its protective layer and damage it. Rinse thoroughly in cool water. Hand squeeze as much water from the sheepskin as possible or spin in the washing machine.

Machine Wash: Wash on the gentle cycle in COLD water only. To make sure as much water as possible is squeezed out, we recommend running it through the spin cycle twice. AIR DRY ONLY! Do not dry your rug in the dryer, as this can cause hardening of the skins. Make sure to keep your rug away from a direct heat source and out of direct sun when you air dry it.

A dry cleaner specializing in leather can also clean your rug. This is the recommended method for the multiple pelt rugs due to their size.

Q:  What kind of sheepskin do you use for your sheepskin rugs?
A:  Our rugs our made from 100% Australian merino sheepskin pelts. The 2” shag makes these rugs super plush and cozy.

Q: Won’t sheepskin seat covers make me sweat during the summer months?
A: Great for any time of year, sheepskin seat covers keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The hollow fibers of wool act as an insulator by providing an air cushion, thus moderating your body temperature. Sheepskin seat covers also protect your seat from absorbing heat from the sun and ‘burning’ you when you sit down in your car. Imagine it's 99 degrees, you’re wearing a tank top and shorts and you left your convertible with the top down in direct sun for 15 minutes. If you had sheepskin seat covers, you could get into your vehicle without fear of scorching your legs or back. Try that without sheepskin seat covers and it’s gonna hurt!

Q: What are the benefits of sheepskin seat covers for my car seats?
A: Besides making your driving experience more comfortable and keeping your seats in great condition, sheepskin seat covers have additional benefits:
•Sheepskin does not give off an electrical charge, thus sheepskin seat covers release static electricity created by the natural friction of your body and the environment without zapping you. On the other hand, synthetic seat covers are 100% insulators of electrical energy.
•Sheepskin keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
•Sheepskin wicks away sweat and moisture almost immediately.
•Sheepskin is naturally resistant to dirt and bacteria and easy to clean by brushing and vacuuming.

Q: From what kind of sheepskin are your seat covers made?
A: Our sheepskin seat covers are individually crafted in the United States from the finest plush Australian Merino sheepskin where you sit on the seat and a sturdy, matching stretch-fleece for the full back of the seat and sides. Fully lined with a cotton lining, they have a number of straps and hooks that fasten them securely beneath your car seat.

Q: How thick are your sheepskin seat covers?
A: Our seat covers are 7/8 to 1” inch thick, making these sheepskin seat covers soft to the touch.

Q: Are sheepskin seat covers safe to use if I have side impact air bags?
A: Yes, if the correct alteration has been made to the seat cover. Our alteration is simple and allows the air bag to deploy without any obstruction. Please indicate on your order that you have side impact airbags and we will alter accordingly.

Q: How do I know if I have side impact air bags?
A: Check the side of your seat. If your vehicle has side impact air bags, generally, there is a notice affixed to the side of the seat. Some vehicles have an indicator on the dash. If you find no information, check the Owner’s Manual to be completely sure.

Q: Why should I buy my sheepskin seat covers from Baa Baa Sheepskins?
A: We’ve been selling sheepskin for over 16 years. We know what works. And when you buy your seat covers from Baa Baa Sheepskins, they have a 1 year warranty against manufacturer defects. We will replace them free of charge if you have an issue with craftsmanship within one year from date of purchase.

Q: Can I get sheepskin covers for my headrests? What about my console and my seat belts?
A: Absolutely. We can match them to your seat covers. We also offer console covers, seat belt strap covers and steering wheel covers.

Q: How easy is it to install your seat covers?
A: It’s very easy to install these seat covers. Simply slide them over the seat and attach the straps firmly under each seat. Each seat cover ships with an illustrated, step-by-step instruction guide to help you through the installation process.

Q: How do I keep my sheepskin seat covers clean?
A: Our sheepskin seat covers have been tanned using the most advanced technology known to man. As a result, simple care is all that is needed to maintain their beauty and comfort. Basic maintenance of sheepskin requires that you brush the wool up with a wire pet brush and vacuum off the pelt at least once a month. This will enhance the life of the seat cover. Please refer to Caring for Your Sheepskin Seat Covers for more detail.

Q: How often should I clean them?
A: It really depends on your personal preferences. If you keep them brushed and vacuumed, occasional dry cleaning or spot cleaning is all that may be necessary. Because wool is a natural fiber, it resists soiling. Removing the seat cover occasionally and shaking it out also removes loose dirt and restores the fleece to its original condition. Dry cleaning is recommended, but the seat cover may be washed without damage providing that proper instructions are followed. Please refer to Caring for Your Sheepskin Seat Covers for more detail.

Q: How long will my sheepskin seat covers last?
A: Our seat covers typically last about 5-7 years. Of course, it all depends on how much wear and tear you put on them. If you only drive your Ferrari once a month – those seat covers could last 15 years. On the other hand, if you’re in construction and spend most of the day getting in and out of your Chevy Silverado with your tool belt on, maybe only 3 years.

Q: Are your seat covers one-size-fits-all or do you have styles for all car models?
A: We have one-size-fits-all seat covers in low back or high back models. In addition, we can custom tailor seat covers for any car make or model.

Q: How can I find the perfect sheepskin seat covers for my automobile?
A: We can custom tailor seat covers for any car make or model.  Please contact us for more information.
